Speaking of dancing chickens?what?s the deal with exotic pets? Some people are just obsessed with bringing less and less appropriate animals into their homes. A quick scan of an exotic pet website and I found that I could purchase a porcupine, zebra, antelope or baby water buffalo from individuals who, for inexplicable reasons, are in possession of porcupines, zebras, antelopes and baby water buffalos. Have you ever seen a water buffalo? They can grow up to 2,000 pounds. Here?s a helpful rule ? it shouldn?t be a pet if, when it sits on you, you die.

Look, I understand the impulse. When I was a kid, I imagined having a pet alligator. I thought that if I raised it from the time it was a baby, we could get along. But then I grew up to not be a Bond villain.
Alligators aren?t sentimental. Neither are the rest of these exotic pets that foolish people attempt to tame. A few years ago, Paris Hilton had to go to the hospital when her pet kinkajou bit her arm. Now, this isn?t a great example, as many of us would bite Paris Hilton if we were given the opportunity. But the point remains. These creatures do not want to be your pets.
Get a dog. Dogs dream of nothing but being a pet. It is the pinnacle of dogness. They love following you around and making you happy. They live to fetch and be a companion. And, most importantly, they don?t want to kill you. Most exotic pets do. I think that even a lot of cats would give it a shot if they were a little bigger. ??

And, perhaps most surprising of all, these bearded dragons were originally just plain dragons?they grew the beards in an attempt to disguise themselves from all of the people trying to turn them into exotic pets.
So, how am I going to do it??? How will I convince humans that we don?t have the right to put a leash on anything that moves? Sure, movies like Every Which Way But Loose make it look like a grand old time to have a pet monkey?but they tend to downplay the scratching, biting, and feces flinging. Trust me, those gorillas should stay in the mist. These pet owners need to stop being so short-sighted. All animals look cute when they?re babies. Even I looked cute as a baby. But when it comes to trying to own the wild, it?s time to grow up.

"Real Housewives of Orange County" cast member Tamra Barney struggled a bit with the live format of "Watch What Happens: Live" (Weeknights, 11 p.m. EST on Bravo). She used her "Plead" rather quickly, balking when Cohen asked her to choose between Vicki or Gretchen. Vicki has been her long-time best friend on the show, but in this week's episode Vicki grew jealous at how close Tamra had gotten with Gretchen. Her inability to choose one over the other here will likely only fuel that jealousy.
She was then forced to answer the question as to which Housewife's significant other she would choose: Alexis' husband Jim or Gretchen's boyfriend Slade. Slade won that one. But much more problematic for Tamra was when Andy Cohen asked her to tell him three positive things about Alexis Bellino.
"She's a Katie Couric, so she's a newscaster," Tamra said. And then she started pausing and stammering and searching for an answer. This lasted up until Andy had to throw to a break. So she basically was able to come up with one nice thing to say about her. It's only too bad that the fallout from these kinds of interviews on "WWHL" can't be seen on the next installment of the various "Real Housewives" shows.

NEW YORK (AP) ? Forget the usual vacant model stare. It was smiles and high fives with Iman as real moms of all shapes and sizes took over New York Fashion Week, working a runway Thursday with strollers and pregnant tummies, looking chic for everything from school drop-off to date night.
They walked in the first-ever "Strut: The Fashionable Mom Show," organized by two of their own at the city's Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center near Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week's tents.
They were tall, short, hourglass and your basic size 8. Clothes came from top designers like Tory Burch and Michael Kors, maternity wear from Hatch and A Pea in the Pod.
"I feel amazing," said mom model Lauren Jimeson, who is 37 weeks pregnant and strutted in a cream cocktail dress with cut-outs on the sleeves. "It's just a great message that you can be fashionable and still be a mom and still look great and feel great."
One of the organizers, Melissa Gerstein, said she and fellow mom blogger Denise Albert hatched the idea after they got a TV gig and had nothing to wear.
"We need stuff that's transformable and affordable, that real moms like us can wear every single day to all of the things that we have to do, whether it's the grocery store, school pickup, back to the meeting, back to school."
Looks included a pair of white skinny jeans matched with a purple, tie-dye T-shirt, or loose black slacks with a billowy mustard top. One of two moms who pushed empty strollers down the runway decorated with autumn leaves wore a khaki skirt above the knee with a sleeveless white tunic and an added pop of red in a belt.
Iman ? yes, she's a mom of two ? didn't walk but looked resplendent in the front row in a purple lace top and short, pleated skirt by Prabal Gurung.
"I'm with my people! People think fashion and moms are at odds, which I don't think they are," the supermodel and mogul said backstage. "It's just our lifestyle is different, yet we hold the purse strings at home and make all the decisions on purchases."
For so many moms, those purchases are focused on their kids, not themselves, when it comes to clothes. And they live in the moment, which is why the show's creators made sure all of the looks on the runway are available right now in stores ranging from Bloomingdale's to T.J. Maxx, rather than six months from now in exclusive boutiques when high fashion's next season rolls around.
There were blazers and jackets from Chris Benz to the Gap, bags Iman sells on HSN.com and dresses by Kors and Rachel Roy.
Gerstein, in a charcoal skirt and tie blouse, and Albert, in a sparkly silver party top with black leggings, run Themoms.com and appear regularly on TV. They chose fellow mommy bloggers to walk the runway. Albert walked with her young son and the 8-year-old of another mom model served as DJ.
When it comes to the fabulous fashion industry, Gerstein said moms are usually invisible.
"I think moms are written off by the fashion world because of what's presented on the runway ? a size zero, 6-foot-2 tall woman, and that is not the norm. We care about fashion, too."
Mom model Kimberly Goodwin, nearly eight months pregnant, agreed.
"Just because you're a mom, you don't lose your sense of style," she said. "You don't lose your love of fashion. I'm big right now. I want to feel good."
She walked in a pair of skinnies. "Who would have thought even five, 10 years ago that red skinny jeans would be something a mom eight months pregnant would be wearing down a runway," Goodwin said.
Iman, who has her own cosmetics and accessories company, was recruited for the event by an old friend and fellow mom, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, the fashion director at Lincoln Center and an IMG consultant.
Balancing work life and home life while still looking and feeling good "isn't always easy," Winston Wolkoff said. "It was important to make this different than what Fashion Week is usually about."
So what does Iman wear to the bank, the playground, a night out with hubby David Bowie?
"I may start with a suit in the morning, then a legging," she said. "The important thing is we need a wardrobe that can change from playground to office to a night out. We still care about fashion."

Brazil police may have killed 30 during strike
SAO PAULO (AP) ? Law enforcement officials say police may have committed up to 30 murders during the recently ended police strike in Brazil's northeastern state of Bahia.
An official with the police department's homicide department says 30 of the 180 people murdered during the 12-day strike that ended Saturday were killed execution-style. He spoke on condition of anonymity in line with department policy.
He says many of the victims were found with their hands handcuffed or tied behind their backs.
He says preliminary investigations and eyewitness reports "lead us to believe that these killings were the work of militias" made up of former or active-duty officers that extort residents and often double as extermination squads.

Bulls will not be tamed by weak profits (Reuters)
NEW YORK (Reuters) ? Despite a mediocre earnings season and signs of an overbought market, Wall Street bulls are likely to remain in control this week.
So far in this earnings season, 352 companies in the S&P 500 have reported results, of which only 63 percent have beaten Wall Street estimates. This compares to a beat rate of about 70 percent on average for the past four quarters and would be the lowest since the fourth quarter of 2008.
Usually, strong earnings are associated with stock market rallies and improved investor sentiment. But despite this season's relatively weak results, the S&P is up nearly 7 percent for the year, and the index has posted gains for every single week in 2012, except for a 0.2 percent loss last week.
"The demand for risky assets is strong. There is steady buying in the market, and the money is constantly being put to work," said Brian Lazorishak, portfolio manager at Chase Investment Counsel in Charlottesville, Virginia.
"The market is sort of overlooking the weak 2011 earnings and looking forward to an improved 2012 earnings season ... It's like a green light to investors to get into risky assets."
There are a number of catalysts that have helped the market this year, including a slew of improved economic data and the Federal Reserve's vow to keep interest rates low.
Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke last week reiterated his plans to hold interest rates at record lows until late 2014. Many economists were looking to see if Bernanke might waver on that stance after news that hiring surged in January and the unemployment rate fell to a three-year low of 8.3 percent.
Also the Institute for Supply Management said its services index rose in January to its highest since February 2011.
"Earnings upgrades by sell-side analysts tend to move in line with economic momentum, with global earnings momentum typically turning positive when the ISM new orders moves above 52," said Credit Suisse Group AG's analyst Andrew Garthwaite.
"Yet, new orders are now at 57, and earnings momentum continues to be clearly negative," he said, adding that "this was a problem but not necessarily bearish for markets."
The S&P 500 slid 0.7 percent on Friday, its biggest percentage decline so far in 2012 after an about-face on Greece's long-awaited debt deal ended a five-week streak of gains for equities.
Investors have anxiously awaited a bailout package for Greece so the country could avoid a messy debt default, but complications have tied up talks for weeks.
An agreement finally came last week but it was dealt a blow as Greek workers went on strike to oppose fiscal reform measures requested by the European Union and International Monetary Fund. Greek Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos said the nation needs to reach a decision within days on accepting the terms of a bailout.
This week, 51 S&P 500 companies are expected to report earnings. The earnings growth rate for the S&P 500 for the fourth quarter of 2011 is now at 8.9 percent, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S. However, excluding Apple (APPL.O), the overall growth rate is at 5.8 percent, the research report said. Companies expected to report this week include MetLife (MET.N) and Goodyear (GT.N).
MORE VOLATILITY EXPECTED
Despite the optimism in the stock market, options traders are bracing for more volatility ahead.
Wall Street's favorite pulse of investor sentiment, the CBOE Volatility Index (.VIX), or VIX, jumped nearly 12 percent to 20.79 after peaking at 21.98 on Friday. The VIX, a 30-day risk forecast of expected stock market volatility conveyed by S&P 500 (.SPX) option prices, typically moves higher when stocks decline.
"The sharp move up in the VIX, especially over the last hour, suggests that there is serious concern over the European debt crisis and traders are looking to options to protect their equity positions heading into the weekend," said optionMonster analyst Chris McKhann.
"If these volatility buyers are correct, then Monday could be ugly for equities."
Typically the options risk gauge is relatively weak on a Friday as traders factor in time decay in the price of the SPX options. But the daily percentage move was huge on Friday. The VIX logged its biggest daily percentage gain in three months, given that the S&P is down less than 1 percent.
VIX futures also made very large moves to the upside. The February futures, which have only two days of trading left, jumped 12.5 percent to 22.50. The contract closed at 21.75.
Shares also advanced in the TVIX, the VelocityShares Daily 2X VIX short-term, exchange-traded note, which is designed to gain or lose at twice the rate of the underlying index on a daily basis. The leveraged ETN, based on the front two-month VIX futures, gained 17.14 percent to $19.07, and is now more than 50 percent in value over the past four sessions.
"This suggests that traders are paying up to buy volatility as a hedge against a continued decline," McKhann said.
Economic indicators due this week include retail sales on Tuesday and industrial production on Wednesday. On Thursday, housing starts, jobless claims and the producer price index are due. The consumer price index will be released on Friday.
